Fire South Open Run Top Defensive Performers.

Posted by JERRY WILLIAMSON on January 2, 2015 at 12:05 AM Comments comments (0)
On Tuesday at 11am at Goulds Park. I observed several defensive backs coached by former FSU defensive back J.R. Bryant and one linebacker that has "FBS" material written all over them. Coral Gables 17' CB Khamal Ellison (5-10, 165) continues to standout as a headliner for his group. Last month attending Larry Blustein & TOC All-Star Combine, he stood out as one of the top cornerbacks and on Tuesday at Fire South Open Run event, he was once again one of the top cornerbacks. Khamal aggressive play at the line of scrimmage, fluid hips and speed & quickness allows him to cover both the bigger and small speedy wide receivers of the world. Miami Killian 17' CB Juwan Horn (5-9, 160) played both safety and cornerback. The U.S. Army National Combine selection displayed why he was one of the selective guys chosen across the country. He either was running step for step with wide receivers or reading quarterback eyes at safety breaking on the ball. Mavericks Charter 16' DB Emmanuel Watson (5-11, 175) passed the eye test right away and displayed excellent range making multiple plays both center field and alone the sidelines. Emmanuel led all safeties in pass deflections. Southwest Miami 16' DB/CB C.J. McWilliams (5-11, 175) was named the Top safety at Larry Blustein & TOC All-Star Combine according to Rising Stars. C.J. shortly afterwards was verbally offered by FAU. At the Fire South Open Run event, he lined-up at both cornerback & nickle cornerback and looked great. His press coverage and physical play at the line of scrimmage resulted in several wide receivers being rerouted. Miami Southridge 17' DB Coemba Jones Jr. (5-7, 150) is one of those athletes at the high school level you don't question his size biggest is confident, physical and talented. Coemba was arguably the toughest guy at the line of scrimmage. He made several big plays and here's a note, recorded 110-Tackles this fall. Christopher Columbus 16' LB Bryce Handy (6-1, 220) pound-for-pound was the best athlete on the field on Tuesdays at Goulds Park. I observed this big man play rush end and outside linebacker this fall and to see him running step for step with running backs and wide receivers who didn't lack speed caught me off guard. He was the best linebacker at the event.

Fire South 7-on-7 football coaching staff (HC/OC) David Cooney and (DB coach) J.R. Bryant observed over fifty talented student-athletes from both the Northwest and Southwest areas of Dade County--ranging from 9th through 11th graders showcasing their talents during one-on-ones and 7-on-7 sessions. Miami High 17' QB Murphy Theodore (5'9, 150) stood out among all quarterbacks--Displaying a combination of arm strength, accuracy and a high football IQ--with back shoulder passes and placing passes where only the wide receiver can catch it. Christopher Columbus 16' WR Jerron Rollins (6-3, 175) not only stood out towering every cornerback that challenged him, but displayed deceptive speed and used his long wing-spam to box out defenders making it a challenge to cover him. Westminister Christian 16' WR Elbre Gaitor (5-9, 170) is lighting quick that runs excellent runs and his hand-eye coordination is off the charts. He'll make an excellent slot receiver at the next level. Miami Southridge 16' WR Malik Spatcher (5-9, 160) is another oustanding slot receiver that recorded a 4.6 laser at the Miami Nike Camp last spring. His top speed and change of direction made quarterbacks job throwing the ball less of a challenge. Coral Gables 17' WR/TE Kemore Gamble (6-4, 210) turning heads with his quicknes for a man. He was fluid running routes and used his size to his advantage. Westminister Christian 16' WR/ATH Akil Oliver (5-9, 165) here's a young man you just put in space and give him the ball. He beat defenders deep and intermediate and displayed the confidence coaches love to see when athletes compete. Coral Gables 17' ATH Kevin Romer (5-9, 165) will be the top Utility athlete for his class in So. Florida. He's a dangerous athlete that can perform can hurt you in all three phases of the game and he even starts at punter that averaged over 30-yards per punt. The Best of the Rest. Miami Killian 17' QB Antwan Collier (6-1, 180) Miami Killian 18' WR Daquris Wiggins (6-2, 170) Miami Southridge 16' RB D. J. Hill (5-10, 150)
